It is most commonly observed.
Some of them suffer swelling in one foot, one leg but few develop swelling in both legs and feet.
There might be different causes for swelling like keeping legs hanging for a long time, problems in circulation may be in the blood vessels or veins. Pus in some part of feet and legs , issues in the heart, kidney problems, protein deficiency, thyroid disorders, fracture, charcot’s foot, pregnancy, varicose veins, due to certain medications, filariasis and the list goes on and on.

Alarming condition is Deep Vein thrombosis in which the blood clots in your veins and cause swelling of legs
There might be a Cellulitis which is infection of skin and subcutaneous tissue of your limbs, Necrotising fascitis which is a more serious condition which involves the fascia which left alone will need to compartment syndrome and other complications inclusive of sepsis and shock and if left untreated death of the patient.

Treatment

Never neglect. Consult your foot surgeon as soon as possible as fatalities like pulmonary embolism and other complications as said above and also patient might be on death bed because of negligence in not consulting and seeking early treatment
